Little by little, manufacturers are unveiling new hybrid models, and one segment where hybrid technology helps a great deal (especially in reducing consumption) is SUVs. Volkswagen has revealed some details about the future VW Touareg BlueMotion Hybrid. The hybrid Touareg will use a 3.0 V6 TSI engine paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The engine is an old acquaintance of Audi: it features a supercharger and 333 CV (fitted to the Audi S4). This time, however, it is coupled to an electric motor with 52 CV of power, powered by a 288-volt nickel battery whose capacity we do not know. In total, the hybrid system delivers 374 CV of power and 550 Nm of torque.

Among the performance figures of the Touareg BlueMotion Hybrid are an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and an average consumption of less than 9 litres per 100 kilometres (a 25% improvement over the conventional model). The Volkswagen Touareg BlueMotion Hybrid will be available from 2010, and its price is still unknown for the moment.
