Volkswagen has just presented the renewal of the “R” logo, which will be used on both R-Line models and future R models.

New Volkswagen R

Just as brands advance in technology and engineering, they also do in design and aesthetics. Volkswagen surprised everyone at the last Frankfurt Motor Show not only with the arrival of the new ID.3, its first 100% electric vehicle, but also with the renewal of its logo. In this way, the German brand managed to offer a much cleaner and fresher look through a very simple detail, a feeling it also wants its sportiest vehicles to convey. To achieve this, Volkswagen designers have put a fresh spin on the “R” logo, the letter that represents the brand’s most radical vehicles.

Indeed, the Golf R and T-Roc R are the ultimate representatives of the sporting division of the Wolfsburg company. They are presented as two models ready to elevate the concept of the compact and sporty SUV with a much more daring style and a matching mechanical setup. However, Volkswagen has wanted to go further with the next generation of R models that is coming, and the logo redesign is a statement of intent.

These are intentions to completely renew the range of sporty models and make them even more radical. This should not surprise us, since the imminent arrival of the eighth-generation Golf means that both the current GTI and R will gradually disappear to make way for their new versions.

The same will happen to the T-Roc R, a vehicle that has been on the market for relatively little time but that will sooner or later receive its corresponding update. But a new logo implies something more, and this may be a clear indication that the German brand intends to expand its R family and offer variants of other models with performance and styling in keeping with the name.

This also applies to the ID. models, which are not incompatible with a much sportier character, as the ID.R demonstrated. But, before we keep fantasising about a future full of Volkswagen R models, we must bear in mind that this logo is applied to the R-Line trims, a trim level offered by the German manufacturer that will also be represented by the renewed “R”.

This is how Volkswagen continues to gradually advance with the renewal of its range, which is being driven by the ID.3 and the new Golf, a vehicle that will take up the baton from one of the most iconic models of all time.
