Volkswagen wants to shake things up: it plans to invest 50 billion in new models, factories and technology

Volkswagen has already approved a very ambitious investment plan of 50 billion euros, covering new models, new technologies and new industrial plants spread across the world.

It is not that Volkswagen is under threat in recent times; quite the opposite, since the German brand is currently the largest automotive industrial group in the world . Perhaps that is reason enough to have around 50 billion euros available for investment, something other brands can only dream of.

Volkswagen’s industrial plan includes investment in new technologies, models and new production plants, according to Volkswagen’s CEO, Martin Winterkorn. All of this is not merely an expression of wishes or future plans that may or may not come to fruition; quite the contrary, the use of these funds has already been approved by the brand’s supervisory board.

According to the CEO, the investment plan includes investing in the brands MAN and Porsche, the most recent to fall under the shadow of the German group. However, it does not include the operations carried out in China, against all expectations, which will have to be self-financed.

Details of Volkswagen’s investments have partly come to light. We can say they will begin with a new generation of MAN trucks, in addition to developing new hybrid and electric engines. In total, Volkswagen will invest 14.5 billion euros in products over the next three years, including new factories such as Audi’s plant in Mexico and the expansion of Porsche’s plant in Leipzig, where the new Macan SUV will be produced.
