Volkswagen will launch a rival for the Renault Captur in 2018

Volkswagen will launch a new compact SUV at the end of 2018. The new model will use the same platform as the Volkswagen Polo and will be inspired by the T-Cross Breeze prototype that was presented last year at the Geneva Motor Show.
Unlike the convertible concept, T-Cross Breeze, the new compact SUV will use a hard roof and a five-door bodywork. This model will compete directly with the Peugeot 2008, the Renault Captur and the Opel Mokka.
The new crossover will offer the petrol and diesel engines of the new generation of the Polo. These engines will have three or four cylinders, while their power will range from 74 CV to more than 200 CV.

The German manufacturer is also developing a hybrid powertrain for several of its models, including the production version of the T-Cross Breeze. This powertrain will use a 15 kW electric motor linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The hybrid power unit will offer up to 4 kilometres in 100% electric mode and will feature an overboost function that increases the vehicle’s performance during acceleration. In the future, Volkswagen will extend the electric range of this powertrain to reduce its emissions and deliver greater performance.
The new SUV will be a true made in Spain. It will be built alongside the new Polo at the Volkswagen plant in Pamplona.
