Voyah Dreamer, the fastest minivan in the world, is already on sale in China

This MPV aims to win a significant share of China’s minivan and MPV market, with the most powerful engines in its segment.

Dongfeng Voyah Minivan (5)

Minivans remain a type of vehicle that holds a significant presence in the Asian market. A great deal of work is being done to keep them relevant in it. Last year, the MPV model Voyah Dreamer was unveiled in Guangzhou, a minivan presented as the fastest MPV in the world. This month sales have begun, and customers in China can now access a model that seeks to establish itself in that segment.

Voyah is a premium brand of Dongfeng and has launched this van, which will feature an electric powertrain and a plug-in hybrid with extended-range capability. The electric version has two motors delivering a combined output of 320 kW, equivalent to 435 CV, and a maximum torque of 620 Nm. The 0-100 km/h acceleration is set at 5.9 seconds, and its top speed is electronically limited to 200 km/h.

These specifications fall short of those offered by another model from the brand, the Voyah Free SUV. It is based on the same platform but delivers an output of 510 kWh, equivalent to 615 CV, and a maximum torque of 1,040 Nm. Even so, the electric powertrain of this model makes it the most powerful in its range.

For its part, the extended-range plug-in hybrid version runs on two electric motors that together deliver 290 kW, or 390 CV. The combustion engine that feeds the battery is a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit. In this case, the 0-100 km/h acceleration takes 6.9 seconds.

As for range, it is rated at 600 kilometres for the EV model and 700 kilometres for the extended-range hybrid.

A notable exterior

On the outside, there is a large grille covering practically the entire front section. The bodywork features plenty of chrome elements and a set of LED headlights. The vehicle measures 5,315 millimetres in length, 1,985 millimetres in width and 1,820 millimetres in height. The wheelbase is 3,200 millimetres. This places it slightly ahead of other premium minivans on the market.

Comfortable interior

Inside, there is a configuration of four or seven seats. This version has a 2+2+3 seating layout, so occupants of the second row enjoy the same captain’s chairs. Even with the third row in use, the cargo area is very spacious and comfortable.

The equipment is very comfortable and offers plenty of convenience. There are three screens on the dashboard, heated and ventilated seats, adjustable footrests, vegan leather upholstery, electric sliding doors, a DYN Audio sound system and a level 2 autonomous driving system.

The first deliveries will take place in July 2022, although in principle it will only be available in the Asian market.
