Now that Ford has given the Mustang a few updates and GM has done the same with the Camaro, it was the turn of the third contender, the Dodge Challenger. For the 2011 model, Chrysler has in mind some changes that improve the Challenger where it counts: the engines.

We pass briefly over the bodywork, where there is little more to say than that it looks literally as if the shape of the front bumper had been reversed, since the lower air intake will now curve upwards, giving the front a “change of face”. The Challenger’s “face” will become more serious and look more menacing. On the other hand, the previous Chrysler logo on the front has been removed.

In the interior, it is said that the dashboard will be redesigned and its finishes improved, although exactly how the changes will look has not yet been revealed.

And now the engines. The R/T version, the intermediate V8, will not undergo any changes and will remain unaltered. As far as consumption goes, the R/T has gained a slight advantage, as it will consume a little less petrol. The version with the V6 engine will see its power rise to approximately 280/300 horsepower, depending on whether the engine uses direct injection or not. For this model, the next generation of V6 engines (V6 Pentastar) is being considered.

The SRT8 version will receive most of the changes that Chrysler is introducing on the Challenger, raising the power by around 60 horsepower, and for it a transmission specially made for the model is planned, developed in collaboration between Chrysler and ZF, an automatic with eight speeds.
