Why not treat yourself to a used Ferrari?

Problems you may run into when buying a second-hand Ferrari: bills that can end up exceeding the price of the car itself

You’re probably like me: looking at used car prices, you’ve more than once considered the possibility of buying a used Ferrari, a market full of opportunities where you’ll find dozens of vehicles for the price of, for example, a BMW 3 Series

Now, there’s something you must keep very much in mind: unless you have an exceptionally healthy bank balance, buying new would not be among our main options in the beginning, so perhaps we’ll find what we’re looking for second-hand. Before going on, I’ll just tell you all that glitters is not gold

By this I mean something as simple as this: just because you can afford to buy a second- or third-hand Ferrari doesn’t mean you can afford to keep it. You have to bear in mind that this kind of vehicle was, at the time, designed and sold to people who had no problem spending what a house costs today on a sports car.

Specifically, today I want to tell you about a certain 1997 Ferrari F355 Spider, a vehicle that until just a few days ago could be bought on eBay for the modest price of $49,000, a more than tempting price if it weren’t for the fact that the owner has included a series of maintenance bills that can frankly be horrifying.

For example, in mid-2008 the owner had to rebuild the model’s engine, with a bill of $47,854.84. After that, they realised the model’s V8 still had several problems, which raised the bill by another $8,160.02. Simply unbelievable, beyond all logic and, above all, far out of reach for any wallet.
