Will Ferrari head towards a V8 MultiAir engine?

Ferrari would be working on its own variant of a V8 engine that uses the MultiAir system, according to reports from Maranello. Although Ferrari must already be aware of the MultiAir technology and its advantages, with Formula 1 engines, the development is said to include some technical novelties that Ferrari would implement.

The Multiair system that Ferrari is reportedly testing could use air for the engine’s intake (as F1 engines do), unlike the electro-hydraulic actuators that Fiat uses. To this end, the application would be aimed at small-displacement V8 engines with a great ability to rev up quickly and sustainably (among other things) thanks to MultiAir.

It should be noted that one of the system’s advantages is the absence of the physical limit imposed by the material strength of the valve springs, the higher the engine speed. In this way, Ferrari could have an engine with plenty of power, a lot of torque and controlled consumption, all without needing to go beyond an 8-cylinder engine.

If we rely on what appear to be leaked sketches of the system’s patent filing, we see that Ferrari is preparing “something”, making use of MultiAir. The possibilities opened up for an engine designed for sporty use, using MultiAir technology, are quite interesting enough that we won’t wait long to see more on the subject, and I hope it will be very soon.
