Will the Hummer EV reach Europe? GM may be considering it

The arrival of the Hummer EV in the US market has been a major announcement, and many buyers have set their sights on this model. Some potential European buyers have too. But this vehicle has little chance of reaching Europe. One of the main problems it faces is its enormous size, as well as a weight of 4,110 kg.

This weight makes it considerably heavier than what can be a vehicle that may be driven on a B2 licence. So in European countries, anyone who wants to drive it will have to obtain a licence to drive vehicles over 3,500 kg. That is, a lorry licence.

This puts considerable obstacles in the way of marketing a vehicle that will require very demanding conditions to drive. So the European market is not very appealing to GM. At present, the American brand sells only two of its own models in Europe, the Cadillac XT4 and the Chevrolet Corvette. And every year very few units of each of these models are sold.

How could the Hummer EV reach Europe?

Having ruled out from the start selling the Hummer EV in Europe, the brand has reconsidered and wants to bring two electric models here. One of them would be the Hummer EV and the other, the Cadillac Lyriq. In the case of the second, there would be no further problem beyond getting it positioned in its segment, electric crossovers. In the case of the Hummer EV, more important decisions would have to be made.

The main one would be that the Hummer EV version would have to be more accessible and manageable in European spaces. This would mean reducing its size and weight, to suit the real needs of European drivers. This solution would allow European drivers to have the option of getting a Hummer EV, the electric off-road vehicle that is expected to be a success in the United States.

But this is still up in the air, and we must wait to see what solution GM finds to bring one of its most popular vehicles to our country.
