Xiaomi is preparing an electric SUV for the end of this very year
If the rumour reported in Chinese media is true, Xiaomi could unveil an electric SUV, probably based on the SU7, coinciding with the anniversary of the latter’s presentation.
The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi, until recently known solely for its consumer electronics devices, took everyone by surprise in the last days of last year with the presentation of its own electric vehicle. A genuine gamble by the company on the car industry as a whole, considering the favourable impression this new model made, having been developed in just three years.
The Xiaomi SU7 finally reached the Chinese market after generating great anticipation at the end of last March. And it did so with the intention of competing with rivals of the calibre of the Porsche Taycan or the Tesla Model S, but for a fraction of the price of the latter. It is therefore no surprise that Xiaomi registered more than 75,000 firm orders in just a few days after its launch.

Xiaomi put three versions of the SU7 on sale in the Chinese market, with a base version priced from just 215,900 yuan. Roughly 27,600 euros at the current exchange rate. Undoubtedly a very attractive price, as was that of the top-of-the-range version, called Max, much better equipped and available from 299,900 yuan. That is, roughly 38,390 euros at the current exchange rate.
And now an SUV as well
Xiaomi’s remarkable start in the car sector with its first electric model does not, however, appear to be enough for the company’s management, which is reportedly already planning to make more waves. That is at least what a recent report published in Chinese media suggests, according to which Xiaomi plans to launch a new electric SUV that could be presented even before the end of the year, thus coinciding with the anniversary of the SU7’s presentation.
This report is apparently based on internal sources within the company itself. However, for the moment Xiaomi has neither officially confirmed nor denied the possible market launch of what would be the brand’s first electric SUV.

The report published in Chinese media goes somewhat further, however, claiming that this new Xiaomi electric SUV would later be followed by what would be the brand’s third electric model. This time a vehicle that would be much more affordable, with a price starting at 150,000 yuan, roughly 19,200 euros.
With these details we can venture to say that this new Xiaomi model should probably be a mid-size vehicle, although it is not clear whether it will be an SUV or a saloon. It remains to be seen, moreover, how the anticipated rise in import tariffs from China will affect a hypothetical marketing of this model in Europe, just as has already happened in the United States.
