The eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf GTI apparently already has an arrival date
Volkswagen could take advantage of the Geneva Motor Show to unveil the new Golf GTI in a world premiere, a variant that would be joined a few months later by the Golf R.

Volkswagen continues to tease its most devoted fans with the eighth installment of the Golf GTI, one of the most cherished variants of the iconic compact. Since the arrival of the Golf 8 and its various versions, many fans of the model have shown great impatience about when the GTI and R would arrive. It seems we can finally breathe easy, as everything points to the German brand using its appearance at the Geneva Motor Show to unveil its favorite child dressed as a hot hatchback.
There is no doubt that the world is buzzing with the arrival of a new sporty Golf, a variant that won’t take long to be joined by its big brother, the Golf R. But, as tradition dictates, the GTI badge will come first, landing on the German compact to give us a preview of what the most exuberant version of all will bring.
In terms of styling, we can predict with reasonable confidence the details that will bring the next-generation Golf GTI to life. A red stripe combined with a honeycomb-pattern grille will dominate the front, along with a more prominent bumper thanks to two air intakes designed to cool the mechanical components of the German compact.

The rear will be framed by a dual exhaust outlet and a small spoiler capable of bringing out the most radical side of Wolfsburg’s favorite child. It is no coincidence that the most significant differences compared with the previous Volkswagen Golf GTI lie in its mechanics, a model that has earned its place in the brand’s history through sheer merit.
As with the seventh generation, the Golf GTI 8 will come in two variants: a standard version and a Performance version. Both will be powered by the well-known 2.0 TSI, a turbocharged four-cylinder inline engine that will produce around 250 CV in the more modest version and close to 280 in the more exciting GTI Performance.

Volkswagen will unveil the new Golf GTI at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, while the R will follow a few months later, but it too will make its appearance in 2020. In this way, the German brand is about to complete the familiar lineup of Golf variants, which could expand with new options supported by a second electric motor.
