4 keys to the manufacturing process that make the Bugatti Chiron special

The Bugatti Chiron stands out not only for its 1,500 CV of power but also for its exclusive manufacturing process. The supercar is built 100% by hand and is configured between the customer and a brand designer.

Series production of the Bugatti Chiron is starting to gather pace. Currently, 12 units are being built at the Bugatti production plant. It is estimated that by the end of 2017 there will be a total of 70 Chirons on the market.

The French supercar is unique for many reasons, including its incredible performance – 1,500 CV of power – but also for offering an exclusive construction process that sets it apart from other brands and supercars. Below we break down the key points of the manufacturing process of the most expensive car on the market: 2.4 million euros.

1.- Personalised to the customer’s taste

The configuration of the vehicle is carried out jointly between the customer and a Bugatti designer. Each Chiron is unique and is manufactured according to the customer’s personal tastes. This model offers 23 exterior colours, 31 interior finishes, 30 types of stitching, 18 carpets and 11 seatbelt colours. And in addition to the basic range, thousands of different finishes and options can be chosen.

2.- Built 100% by hand

In the Bugatti factories there are no robots automating production tasks; everything is carried out by the 20 workers who build the Chiron. The employees are divided into stations, as in a Formula 1 team. The Bugatti Chiron is made up of more than 1,800 individual parts, a large proportion of which are supplied by the Volkswagen group.

In total, 20 employees assemble the entire car piece by piece, and it takes approximately 6 months from the moment production of the car begins until delivery.

3.- The home of the Bugatti Chiron

The supercar is manufactured at the Atelier assembly plant located in Molsheim (France). This factory has a usable area of 1,000 square metres and was inaugurated in 2005. It has an oval layout based on the logo of the French brand, the Bugatti “Macaron”.

4.- The final tests cover more than 300 kilometres

Before the Chiron leaves the Atelier plant, the supercar undergoes an exhaustive programme of dynamic and functional testing in which it covers more than 300 kilometres, reaching speeds in excess of 250 km/h. In fact, there is a legend that says it is capable of exceeding 400 km/h were it not for the electronic speed limiter.
