The Volkswagen Atlas heads off for the weekend in the special Weekend Edition
The Volkswagen Atlas will get a new version when it goes on sale in the US market this coming spring, with elements that turn it into a vehicle designed for enjoying leisure time, as the brand once did with its legendary models

New models from car brands usually stand out for all the innovations they introduce, both aesthetically and in terms of equipment. But designers don’t stop once the car is launched; they keep working on it to offer more interesting versions that catch the eye of potential buyers. The Volkswagen Atlas is a SUV aimed at the US market that was presented not long ago and, as is customary, now it’s time to see different versions with a certain specialisation.
At the Chicago Auto Show we will be able to see a version aimed at leisure time, called Weekend Edition Concept, designed so that the driver can fully enjoy those leisure moments with a series of add-ons made for that purpose. This variant features a cargo divider located behind the second row of seats, which can also allow pets to travel comfortably in the rear of the SUV, something to keep in mind when you have a large dog, as we already saw in an article some time ago.

Many of these add-ons are based on those enjoyed by classic Volkswagen models, those that have gone down in history as legendary vehicles for enjoying the weekend and camping trips. This includes wind deflectors for the windows and roof, mats for wiping your feet clean so you don’t dirty anything with mud, as well as mudguards and wheel protectors.
These, by the way, are fitted with 18-inch Prisma wheels in anthracite grey, which give it a more rural touch. The roof is occupied by the Urban Loader, a cargo space that can double its capacity simply by opening it, offering up to 501 litres, enough to carry what we need for a good day in the countryside.
As for the engine, it uses a 3.6-litre VR6 engine, capable of delivering 276 CV, working together with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, with 4Matic transmission, with a Driving Modes selector. This model is based on the SEL Premium version, and all the elements prepared for it will go on sale this spring, when the version begins to be sold.
