900 people have already signed up to buy the Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid

Only Porsche itself knows how many customers are needed for building the Porsche 918 Hybrid to be profitable. But in terms of the interest this spectacular hybrid concept, first shown in Geneva, has generated, things could not be better, since around 900 buyers have shown some interest in buying their Porsche hybrid.

Apparently, if the number of prospects reaches 1,000, it is very likely that Porsche will produce it. The magic figure and the intention to build it, even if only in a limited run, were revealed by Wolfgang Duerheimer, Porsche’s head of development, at the Beijing show. Seeing that we have already reached 900, it would not be unlikely that in Stuttgart they are already seriously thinking about starting to prepare the production line to handle orders. Will we be able to see it before 2015, the original launch date that was announced at the time?

It is still too early to know which customers (and what type) have signed up for the 918 Spyder Hybrid, but it is not very difficult to guess that to afford this hybrid, you need a certain amount of financial muscle. The money they would pay for this plug-in sports car with a V8 engine has not yet been disclosed by Porsche, but let’s hope the list does not get any shorter when the price is revealed.
