Peugeot SPx: this is the new mobility bet from the French manufacturer

Peugeot unveils without complexes this daring prototype, inspired, we are told, by the Peugeot 103 moped from more than fifty years ago

Peugeot Motorcycles, an independent company of the popular car manufacturer, has just presented the innovative prototype you can see in the image above, with which it intends to offer its own distinctive vision of how mobility should be in urban settings. An electric scooter that has its roots in and is inspired by the Peugeot 103 moped of 1971.

Back then, the 103 became very popular and turned into a benchmark for mobility, as well as a symbol of freedom and independence for many young people of the era. The 103 offered ordinary people in France a reliable means of transport, allowing them to escape the chaotic public transport system.

With the SPx, Peugeot now aims to recover, more than half a century later, that same spirit but adapting it, obviously, to the priorities and needs of modern life. The French manufacturer states that minimalism, sustainability and social responsibility are part of the essence of this new scooter. That is why it no longer uses a noisy and polluting combustion engine, but instead its propulsion system is fully electric.

Coming from the future

The SPx is also extremely light thanks to its monocoque aluminium frame, which allows it to improve its efficiency by reducing energy consumption. At first sight it also stands out for its futuristic appearance, accentuated by its distinctive front fork and its asymmetric swingarm that connects to the rear wheel.

Although for the moment the manufacturer has not revealed any details about its technical specifications, it seems clear that its electric motor should deliver a thrust similar to that of the 125 cc combustion engine of the original Peugeot 103. This would make it the ideal option for those who are starting to use a scooter for their daily commutes, mainly in urban environments.

In Europe, Peugeot Motorcycles currently sells scooters that enjoy good acceptance among the public, such as the Django or the three-wheeled Metrópolis model. The company also includes in its range models aimed at the premium segment, such as the generously sized XP400 scooter and the unfaired PM01 motorcycle.
