A much more radical Maserati has been spotted in Modena: the successor to the GranTurismo?
A few days ago Maserati announced the end of GranTurismo production, and today they have hinted at its new and more radical successor.

Just a few days ago, Maserati announced the end of production of one of its most long-serving models in favour of a successor. The GranTurismo has been a faithful representative of the brand for years, but after a long career it was time for a renewal. We did not expect its successor to make an appearance so soon, but the truth is that Maserati itself has decided to move its new successor forward through several test mules.
From the outset, the Italian firm assured that this would not be a goodbye for the GranTurismo, but a see you later, since its successor would arrive sooner or later. Not surprisingly, the images provided by Maserati reveal a structural figure that is not very typical of a GT, but of a far more radical vehicle, ready to rival models such as the now-defunct Alfa Romeo 4C or the Alpine A110.
And indeed the physique we can interpret through the camouflage is very revealing. The first thing that catches our attention is a short, sharp front end, two features that reveal the position of the engine and suggest that this new vehicle hides an arduous and stoic aerodynamic effort, complemented by three air intakes designed to cool the mechanical assembly.

The cabin is small, but we quickly notice the presence of a rear section that will reveal the true nature of this new Maserati. For now, the brand has not released any photo of that area, but we can hint at the presence of a compartment housing the engine or a boot, since we should not rule out the possibility that this vehicle is 100% electric.
Indeed, the Italian firm has placed special emphasis on the fact that this new offshoot will be responsible for introducing a new era of engines within its range. Without a doubt, this statement leads us to consider that we are looking at a hybrid or even an electric car, a type of powertrain that is becoming increasingly common in the sports and supercar segment.

Be that as it may, the presentation of this mysterious vehicle is scheduled for May 2020. Given the wait we will have to endure, it is only natural to expect a steady stream of teasers from Maserati, which will gradually reveal more details about this tantalising and promising model that leaves behind the traditional concept of the GT.
