A new seven-seat SUV will arrive at SEAT in 2018

The success of the SEAT Ateca has led the Spanish brand to consider new additions to its catalogue, from a higher range, for the year 2018

SEAT took a long time to jump on the SUV bandwagon, but now that it has started down that path, it seems it doesn’t want to fall behind. So, after the presentation of the Ateca and the announcement of the Arona, the two models from the Spanish brand that fall into this segment, it has not wanted to let any more time pass before announcing a new model that will sit above these two and that will have, as is becoming increasingly common among different brands, room for seven occupants.

This model would sit against rivals such as the Nissan X-Trail and will be ready to reach international markets from the second half of 2018. What is this new SUV going to offer that will allow it to position itself in a market with fierce competition and already very popular models? Luca di Meo, the brand’s CEO, has announced little, but we have some clues about what we can expect.

Seat Ateca X-Perience (1)

We know it will be built on the same modular MQB structure used in the Skoda Kodiaq, so we would be talking about a vehicle similar in size to it. We also imagine that it will follow the design line of its two siblings in the segment, with elements that will be retained, although we also expect it will offer some element that identifies it and sets it apart from them. The seven seats will be an option, because the base model will be offered with five.

We have also learned that this model will not be built at the Martorell plant, but that its production will be moved to Wolfsburg, where the models based on the platform shared with, among others, the Volkswagen Tiguan are also built. It seems SUV models are performing well, and not only have enough Ateca units been sold to show that buyers were waiting for a model of these characteristics, but the good reception of later models confirms this trend. What do you think of SEAT’s proposal? Tell us!
