A SEAT León Coupé to rival the Audi A5 would not be a bad idea

Today we came across a render that simulates a SEAT León Coupé, a variant that would seek to rival the Audi A5 and be offered alongside CUPRA as a sports car.

The arrival of the latest generation of the SEAT León has been a revolution in every sense, something made possible by its design, mechanical features and technological arsenal. However, its presentation also led many people to set their minds to work and imagine future variants of the Spanish compact, such as the CUPRA León. But it has been the already well-known designer X-Tomi Design who has put the most effort into this task, as he is the one who conceived a very interesting render: a SEAT León Coupé ready to rival its close relative, the Audi A5.

Over the years we have witnessed how the segment of coupés and three-door compacts has entered a clear decline due to low demand, but this should not take away our hopes. Following the creation of CUPRA as an independent brand, everything points to both entities betting on the development of more sporty vehicles, and a León Coupé could be the perfect example.

And the idea is not as far-fetched as it may seem at first, since it would not only offer a coupé more affordable than the competition’s. At the same time, it would be an ideal basis for CUPRA to develop a very attractive alternative to the current Audi S5, a model that uses a V6 TDI as a replacement for the V6 TFSI the brand once used.

Without a doubt, the render offered by the designer is at least realistic, a feeling it creates thanks to an overwhelming attention to detail. Taking the current León as a starting point, we find the same front end, an area that reinforces its features alongside a much more stylized side profile and a rear that, without fully revealing itself, allows us to glimpse taillights of a similar shape.

In the hypothetical case that the Spanish company decided to launch this version of its favourite child on the market, we can expect a fairly generous range of engines. As it is a coupé, SEAT would opt for the 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines with 150 CV and the most powerful 2.0 TSI with 190 CV, powertrains that would also be complemented by the plug-in hybrid variant and by a CUPRA model that would use a four-cylinder capable of delivering 350 CV.

It will be at the Geneva Motor Show where we get to see the new SEAT León in person, a very promising model that is set to dominate the market. With this premise, it would not be far-fetched to consider that the Spanish firm might take the concept one step further and offer new variants of its flagship compact never seen before.
