A Volkswagen Golf GTi with 510 CV? Yes, it exists, and we can see it in this video

This Volkswagen Golf GTi has passed through the hands of VRS Performance, reaching 510 CV. It has undergone major modifications to achieve those figures

Nowadays, we have the possibility of taking practically any car to unimaginable extremes, thanks to a series of modifications offered by various companies. VRS Performance is part of that select group of firms capable of getting the best out of each vehicle, and on this occasion they have done so. The British firm has taken a Volkswagen Golf GTi VII as its test subject, managing to squeeze out every last drop of sportiness from the car.

Sporty compacts like the Golf GTi are a perfect base for fine-tuning every detail and enjoying even greater performance than it offers from the factory. On this occasion, the owner of this German hot hatchback didn’t think twice and decided to give it characteristics typical of high-flying supercars.

From the factory, the German compact offers a 2.0-litre TFSI engine that produces 230 CV in the standard version and 245 CV if we opt for the Performance variant. In this case, the British tuner has managed to extract 510 CV and 644 Nm of torque from the turbo engine, far surpassing vehicles such as the BMW M4 and Porsche 911, and dangerously approaching the territory of the Mercedes AMG GT and Audi R8 V10.

To achieve such disproportionate performance, they had to make major modifications to every aspect of this Golf GTi. This supercharged compact features an IS38 Hybrid turbo, one of the essential elements of this build. An intercooler signed by Racingline -a brand specialised in VAG group vehicles- has been installed, along with an R600 air filter. Furthermore, the original exhaust system has been replaced by a complete Milltek line, which makes the 2.0 TFSI sound absolutely fantastic.

But all that raw power needs to be stopped, and that important task falls directly on the brake calipers of the Golf R, which are assisted by the discs from the GTi Clubsport, measuring 340 mm at the front and 310 mm at the rear. Roll bars make an appearance in this very special Golf, with the aim of preventing the power from overwhelming the vehicle as much as possible. The suspension has also been replaced with the one offered by the Volkswagen Racing department. Furthermore, it is still the front axle that is in charge of handling all the power the engine produces.

Without a doubt, we have before us a true little rocket, living up to its classification as a hot hatchback. We don’t know this GTi’s exact performance figures, but considering the torque and power it is capable of producing, we can deduce that the 0 to 100 km/h sprint happens in around three seconds or even less.
