After the Range Rover Sport, there is still room for the brand's sportiest SUVs

Range Rover could be developing a sportier version of the Range Rover Sport, with more than 400 horsepower.

Although not officially confirmed, the chassis engineer of the Range Rover Sport has let it slip that the brand is preparing premium versions with more power reserved for the SUV, to be unveiled once the new Range Rover Sport reaches the global market.

Of course, for an upgraded version with finishes superior to those of its younger sibling to be possible, Range Rover must get its numbers right and not only sell many more Sport models, but also keep an eye on what the competition is capable of, especially on the side of Porsche.

And it is that, today, the Porsche Cayenne is the SUV that wealthy buyers choose to drive fast and to be seen in. But Range Rover has been doing its homework very well for some months now and has some prototypes that have gone to test at the Nürburgring, even though the brand’s executive has said that lap times are not the goal, far from it.

The first speculation points to an improved Range Rover capable of exceeding 375 horsepower and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 5.4 seconds, using the turbo V8, possibly upgraded to around 420 horsepower, slightly more than the same engine delivers in the Jaguar XKR-S.
