Alfa Romeo Stelvio Hybrid Cars SUV
Alfa Romeo postpones the new Stelvio: commercial strategy or technical problems?
Alfa Romeo is preparing a new Stelvio SUV that will become a hybrid model, keeping the combustion engine, instead of a 100% electric model.

Alfa Romeo is managing to become a relevant brand again in the tough and difficult current market. To do so, they are presenting quite interesting models and preparing new versions of those already on the market to stand out strongly and make a difference. One of these is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Its next generation was due to arrive soon and was going to become fully electric, although it has finally delayed its launch and brings news.
The first surprise we encounter is that the launch, which was initially planned for 2026, will be moved to 2027. That said, the official presentation of the model could take place on June 19, where it will be shown for the first time with all its final features and the official date of commercialization will be given.

But the change of dates for the launch is not the only important change regarding the future of the new SUV from Alfa Romeo, the Stelvio. The latest information on this is that it will no longer be an electric car, but will instead use a hybrid drivetrain. The platform on which this new Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be built is the STLA Large platform.
This allows both an electric and a hybrid drivetrain to be used, although this change has brought an additional problem to the change in powertrain. And while the platform can be used with both types of engines, adapting it to a hybrid system entails certain changes that may be responsible for this delay.
Although this seems to be a technical problem, in reality it also has a lot to do with commercial strategy. The time it has gained to become a hybrid car will help the Stellantis brand work on the model and refine the drivetrain system to offer the best solution.
The decision to switch from an electric drivetrain to a hybrid one gives a good clue about the change in strategy of the Stellantis brand. Electrification remains present, as with other brands, but combustion engines are still present and are part of the brand’s future.
