Analogue and digital, all in one in the instrument cluster of the Porsche 911
The 992 ‘nine-eleven’ combines the best of tradition with the latest in technological cutting-edge. This is shown, for example, in the new instrument cluster of the Porsche 911
The Porsche 911 has always remained true to its style. The distinctive character of this model across its seven generations has placed it among the most outstanding sports cars in history. This latest one is no exception.
For the occasion, it displays a balanced combination of technological innovation and deep-rooted tradition, across what are, no more and no less than, its eight generations so far.
The showcase we propose today focuses on the instrument cluster of the Porsche 911. A dashboard which, thanks to the craftsmanship of Porsche, reveals the entry of this 992 into the digital age, integrating analogue elements with elegance and practicality.
Analogue and digital fused by cutting-edge design
The rev counter remains true to the analogue character of the history of the Porsche 911. And, as the spokesperson for the heart of the Porsche 911, the numerical indicator of the boxer engine’s effort sits at the centre of the panel, right in the middle behind the steering wheel.
Flanking them are the new members of the scene: the digital screens which, depending on the choice of whoever drives one of the new 992s, can select the display of the information shown.
The newly launched instrument cluster of the new Porsche 911 comes flanked by two screens showing aspects such as current speed and road speed limits, oil pressure and temperature, fuel level and battery voltage, navigation maps, radio information… All grouped simply and in high definition.
In addition, the touchscreen, measuring 10.9 inches across, is a great ally when whoever takes the controls of a brand-new Porsche 911 needs to access the information they want.
Likewise, on the centre console there is a row of five classic-style buttons that allow, in an intuitive, simple and effective way, activation of systems such as the “Wet Mode” of the new Porsche 911.
Goodbye to the key to happiness in the new Porsche 911
Also, along with the instrument cluster of the new Porsche 911, this generation does not need a key to start the engine, whose cylinders once again sit in the opposed-cylinder layout.
Thanks to the Keyless Go system of the Porsche 992, and to the rotary switch located to the left of the steering column, the engine of the new ‘nine-eleven’ comes to life without inserting any blade or key into a lock barrel.
Remote recognition of the unlocking identification device for the locks also allows the engine to be started without a key.
