Another red light for the Volkswagen BlueSport

The Volkswagen BlueSport had arrived at the 2009 NAIAS at just the right moment, with the most suitable configuration and engines. A two-seater roadster with a diesel engine that reached 200 km/h, with very low consumption of 5.6 l/100 km. And best of all, most of us had liked it, and Volkswagen was determined to start production in 2013.

However, personal rivalries within the Volkswagen group once again put the BlueSport in the freezer. Both Audi and Porsche are worried that their future models would not be affected by the BlueSport and that they would lose the share of the market they want for themselves.

And not only because of a certain overlap of models (even though this one was diesel), but because their models would surely be outsold by Volkswagen. A BlueSport would surely have been cheaper than the new “baby” planned by Porsche or the Audi TT Roadster.

So for the moment, the BlueSport will remain on hold, and I fear that this limbo will turn into something much worse, if the partners of Volkswagen keep prevailing. And if my memory serves me right, wasn’t the BlueSport going to have equivalent models from Audi and Porsche? When it comes to business and crunching numbers, there are no friends in the industry, not even when you are partners under the same brand.
