Aston Martin will be the brand chosen to supply the models that will be used as the safety car at 12 Formula 1 Grands Prix in 2022. The two chosen models will begin their work at the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, Melbourne, from 8 to 10 April.

As on previous occasions, the model in charge of this important safety role is the Aston Martin Vantage, as it has been in recent years. But this year, the chosen model has been updated and is the Vantage Racing Green version. This variant is the one found in the racing team of Aston Martin AMR22.

Behind the wheel of this vehicle will once again be driver Bernd Maylander, who will be able to enjoy his work at the controls of a vehicle designed to fulfil its role by the brand’s engineering team in Graydon. The Vantage Safety Car has performed this role in several competitions, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, although this unit has been adapted to move without problems on a Formula 1 circuit.

The Aston Martin Vantage Safety Car has received performance upgrades to face its new role but, in addition, it has been equipped to be more efficient. It has several radio antennas installed, an LED number plate at the rear, and a light bar, also LED technology, on the roof, designed specifically for the car.

Inside, the driver and co-driver can receive the same warning signals that Formula 1 drivers receive. Furthermore, to add more excitement, a cabin camera allows everything happening inside to be broadcast to spectators.

The DBX, Medical Car

The other Aston Martin taking part as the medical car is the DBX. The SUV enjoys several modifications that make it an ideal car for this task. It has FIA-approved sports seats with six-point harnesses. It has screens so that the race can be followed from the vehicle and it is known where its intervention is required. It has fire extinguishers and a large medical kit to reach injured people quickly and provide first aid.

The brand acknowledges that the use of the Aston Martin DBX is not entirely altruistic. All the data collected in the competition has allowed the brand to develop the DBX 707, the high-performance variant. With the presence of these two cars in Formula 1, the brand will be ready to take part in the competition and guarantee the safety of participants when needed.
