At last! The Renault Megane RS will be unveiled this weekend at the Monaco GP

The new Renault Megane RS could reach 300 CV of power and, for the first time, will be all-wheel drive. It will be seen for the first time on 26 May in Monaco.

The new Renault Mégane R.S. will make its first public appearance on 26 May at the Monaco circuit. It will be driven by Nico Hulkenberg and will be officially presented next September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The French sports compact will offer, for the first time, a four-wheel drive system and will come with two transmission options: a manual and a dual-clutch automatic.

Renault has chosen the stage of the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix to unveil the New Mégane R.S. Former Formula 1 driver and winner of the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, Nico Hulkenberg, will be in charge of performing exhibition laps on the Monegasque circuit. “What could be stronger and more symbolic than 40 years of Renault in F1 as the setting for unveiling the New Mégane R.S.,” explains Patrice Ratti, General Manager of Renault Sport Cars.

The Megane RS could offer around 300 CV of power and will feature a four-wheel drive system. The yellow and black livery, inspired by the new Renault Sport visual identity hints at the sporty design lines and strong personality of the new model.

We still do not know the performance figures the new Megane RS will offer, but looking at its rivals in the segment (Honda Civic Type R, Ford Focus RS, Volkswagen Golf R), we could expect it to exceed 300 CV of power. Another option the French sports car could include is a rear-wheel steering axle, a feature already fitted to the GT versions of the Megane.

Will the Megane RS set a new record at the Nürburgring? It should be recalled that the French compact already became the fastest front-wheel-drive car around the “Green Hell” in 2014, but that will no longer be possible, as the French sports car will compete against a new group of cars: all-wheel-drive vehicles.

The New Mégane R.S. will be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 12 September, and will be put on sale from the first quarter of 2018.
