At nearly 430 km/h in a Ford GT

One of the few good qualities of Americans is their ability to organise an event for everything and for every occasion. One of them is to bring together everyone who owns a sports car capable of setting a top speed record over a one-mile (1.6 km) stretch, on a disused airfield runway, with the aim of releasing adrenaline, showing what their cars are capable of, and doing so without being a danger on a public road.
In Miami the event called Exotics Rally Miami One Mile was organised, where the goal is to go as fast as possible by the end of just over a kilometre and a half that each run covers. One of the competitors turned out to be a Ford GT, prepared by Heffner, whom we had already shown you with an impressive Lamborghini Gallardo that reached almost 1,000 horsepower.
But this Ford GT needed 1,900 horsepower (!) and a boost pressure of 41 psi in its two turbos, enough to make the driver start praying while accelerating, hoping the engine wouldn’t explode at any moment. Fortunately for Heffner, the Ford GT held up, and not only that, but it set a speed record among supercars: 425.6 km/h at the end of the 1,600 metres.
The absence of any aerodynamic add-ons on the car makes it seem incredible that the car didn’t take off at such speed…
