Audi plans new body styles for the TT

The new generation of the Audi TT (and that makes three) has recently been launched on the market. What is more, not even the first units have yet reached the hands of their lucky owners. However, Audi is already planning new alternatives.
This raises a question. Is a four-door Audi TT viable? According to Ulrich Hackenberg, the brand’s technical chief, it is.
Alongside this new generation, Audi has presented the Sport Quattro, a concept for a high-performance TT. It may well reach production as the TTS, adding spice to one of the most dynamic vehicles in the four-ring brand’s range.
However, this is not enough for the German firm, which has seen sales of the TT steadily decline in recent years, due to an ageing model but also as a consequence of the drop in sales in one of the segments hit hardest by the global economic crisis: coupés.

That is why Audi, in its drive to diversify -even further- its model range, intends to create at least one new variant of the TT in the form of a four-door coupé, paradoxically one of the segments that has grown most in sales worldwide.
This vehicle will be positioned as a rival to models such as the Mercedes-Benz CLA or the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. It will offer the design and dynamism typical of a TT, adding a practical touch that is very necessary in these times, when very few people can afford a second sports car.
