Audi will present a rival to the Tesla Model X at the Frankfurt Motor Show

The race towards the electrification of the car has only just begun. Whether through alternative fuels or fossil fuels themselves, the future of vehicles lies in the hybridisation of efficient propulsion systems. One of the car segments most affected by high consumption is that of SUVs and 4x4s. These large, heavy vehicles will be the next to feature hybrid systems that help curb that consumption and present themselves as more attractive alternatives for the general public.
On the other hand, Tesla, the California-based manufacturer, has been responsible for revolutionising the automotive industry by launching purely electric vehicles with performance worthy of high-performance cars. Among its nearest projects is the Model X, the American company’s first SUV, which will, of course, be fully electric. The rest of the world’s manufacturers are preparing their engineers so that the same thing does not happen as with the Model S, an electric saloon that has reigned alone in a segment in which other manufacturers would never have considered taking part.

Audi has been the next to make a move and has confirmed that at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, which will take place in September, it will present a prototype electric crossover that will rival the Tesla Model X. It will feature the second generation of the MLB longitudinal modular platform of the Volkswagen Group, and its bodywork will showcase an aerodynamic style unique to this model.
It will not arrive until 2018 as a fully finished SUV. According to official sources, it will be a plug-in hybrid that could offer a hydrogen alternative. Its range is expected to be around 500 kilometres in 100% electric mode and, in addition to the Tesla Model X, the new hybrids from Porsche and BMW could be its rivals. Finally, alongside a completely new design, it would carry a name the brand has not yet used on any model: it would be the Audi Q6.
