China is a very large market that makes it possible to find almost any car, so we have the chance to find vehicles such as GM’s small crossover

The Chinese market has a new model launched by the joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), which follows the line set by the Baojun RS-5 SUV, RM-5 MPV and RC-6 sedan. This is the Baojun RS-3, a subcompact crossover that still uses the brand’s “interstellar geometry” architecture, which is present in the rest of its vehicles.

The model features a new corporate grille with the Baojun logo, prominent front bumpers and an eye-catching rear end. At the front we can see a dynamic and aggressive headlight design. It is an attractive crossover which, at the rear, mirrors the front headlights and creates a very recognisable visual signature.

Inside the Baojun RS-3 we find a modern dashboard, with a floating screen for the infotainment system and a digital panel for the instrument cluster. A sporty steering wheel and sport seats make up the cabin layout, which also features piano-key style buttons for the controls.

The dimensions of this crossover are 4.30 metres in length, a width of 1.75 metres and a height of 1.62 metres. The R platform, on which this model is built, has a wheelbase of 2.55 metres, which allows comfortable interior space.

The engine of this crossover is a 1.5-litre unit that delivers 105 CV in naturally aspirated form, paired with a CVT gearbox or a six-speed manual transmission. As for its technology, we can highlight the latest version of Baojun’s connectivity system, a voice recognition system and over-the-air updates.

To complement the technological equipment, it comes with a level 2 adaptive cruise control supplied by Bosch, which can operate at speeds up to 130 km/h. The price of the Baojun RS-3 is also very attractive, starting at around 10,000 euros, although there are four variants with different prices, all close to this figure. A crossover that would fit very well in GM’s line-up in the West.
