Walter Röhrl, the man who at 72 years old still drives a Audi Sport Quattro S1 Group B as if time had never passed
The living legend, Walter Röhrl, has once again taken the wheel of a Audi Sport Quattro S1, this time at the Most Circuit.

Living legends do exist, and the man we are dealing with today fits that description perfectly: Walter Röhrl. That name represents one of the greatest rally drivers of all time, a two-time world champion who, at 72 years of age, is still able to demonstrate his skill behind the wheel. This is not the first video in which Mr. Röhrl shows off his abilities at the controls of a racing car, but without a doubt the machine chosen makes it considerably more special. It is a Audi Sport Quattro S1 from Group B, one of the cars our protagonist drove when he joined the German manufacturer’s team.
However, on this occasion we have seen the Audi Quattro on an unusual surface. To be more precise, Walter Röhrl has decided to dust off his former companion in battle at the Most Circuit, which belongs to the town of Most, a small city in the Czech Republic with barely 66,000 inhabitants.
Without hesitation, the former driver took the wheel of the iconic rally car to set a fast lap of the circuit’s more than 4,000 metres. A number of slow and fast corners were meant to put Röhrl on the ropes, but the German once again managed to master them with skill.

And it is no wonder, since Walter Röhrl has had to face some of the most challenging terrain in the world at the controls of vehicles in which the driver is alone in the face of danger. The Audi Sport Quattro S1 that stars in the video alongside Mr. Röhrl was powered by a five-cylinder engine capable of producing a staggering 600 CV, a figure managed through the Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
It was in 1984 that Walter Röhrl signed the contract with Audi, the brand with which the German won in Monte Carlo. In Portugal he took a third place, as he did in New Zealand, but it was in San Remo that he debuted the Quattro S1 and claimed victory. Thanks to these titles, Röhrl has earned enviable popularity, to the point that he is catalogued as one of the best drivers in the world.

Today, in 2019, he still enjoys reflexes and skills that many of us would love to possess. We can see how the Audi Sport Quattro S1 does not resist him on the Czech track, where after several opposite-lock slides accompanied by a masterful passage through the corner he manages to deliver a spectacle on a par with those of the past.
