BFGoodrich Advantage: quality tyres at a good price for passenger cars and SUVs
The new BFGoodrich Advantage range arrives to replace the BFGoodrich g-Grip, with tyres for passenger cars and SUVs that stand out for their balance of quality and price.
The American brand BFGoodrich, part of the Michelin Group, is best known in Europe for its range of tyres specially designed for off-road use and for its victories in rally-raids. In fact, BFGoodrich has won every edition of the Dakar Rally in which it has taken part since 1999.
And it has done so in settings as different as the deserts of Africa, South America and Saudi Arabia. The most recent was this 2020 edition, with Carlos Sainz at the wheel of a Mini fitted with BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KDR2+ tyres.

But BFGoodrich does not only make good tyres for extreme 4×4 driving. The brand, which this year 2020 celebrates its 150th anniversary, has a countless number of milestones and technological advances since Henry Ford chose it to equip his first vehicles. For example, BFGoodrich was present on the first transatlantic flight made in 1927 by the “Spirit of St Louis”. The Columbia space shuttle, launched into space in 1977, was also fitted with BFGoodrich tyres, which have enjoyed success in events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Daytona, Pikes Peak and the aforementioned Dakar.
Here you can see a short video summarising some of the brand’s milestones and historical images.
BFGoodrich Advantage: affordable performance
With the introductions out of the way, it is time to talk about the new BFGoodrich Advantage range, with which the brand renews its summer tyre offering, replacing the BFGoodrich g-Grip.

And the first thing to consider when a new tyre is launched is the improvements it offers over its predecessor. In the case of the new BFGoodrich Advantage and BFGoodrich Advantage SUV, particular work has been done on reducing braking distances. These are reduced by almost 2.5 metres for the passenger car versions and nearly 3 metres for the SUV versions, respectively, on wet asphalt. There are also improvements on dry surfaces: 1.5 metres less for the Advantage, and 1.1 metres less for the Advantage SUV.
You can see a comparison between both ranges in this video:
To achieve this improvement, BFGoodrich has worked on the compounds used, as well as on the self-locking sipes and the elements that join the tread blocks, reducing deformation of the tread band, which features an asymmetric pattern with 4 grooves. The BFGoodrich Advantage tyres achieve an “A” rating for wet grip in the European tyre label. In addition to better dry and wet grip, they are announced to offer longer tread life, a lower impact on consumption thanks to reduced rolling resistance, and a lower noise level.

Aesthetically, the BFGoodrich Advantage and Advantage SUV are distinguished only by the addition of the letters “SUV” after the tyre name on the tread. Internally, there are construction differences, aimed mainly at the different loads a SUV carries.
As for availability and prices, there are nearly 100 references for passenger cars and more than 20 for SUVs, in wheel sizes from 14 to 19 inches, covering the most popular sizes on the market. The range will be completed with new sizes in 2021.

Prices are around 20-25% lower than those of a Michelin tyre of equivalent size and characteristics. This price difference is justified because the second brand in the group uses technologies that have already been previously designed, developed, tested and amortised at Michelin, which makes it possible to reduce the final price compared with tyres from the “premium” brand.
