BMW M celebrates its 50th anniversary and revives one of its most iconic logos

If you are a passionate follower of the most powerful letter in the world, you will surely know that this very year marks half a century of life, and that is cause for celebration. On 24 May, BMW M celebrates its 50th anniversary. Along with other news, the sports division has opted for a very special detail that we are sure will win the hearts of its fans. The new M and M Sport models will offer, as an option, the iconic BMW Motorsport logo.

Drivers who choose the iconic BMW Motorsport logo as an option will see it on the front, the rear and the wheels. According to the German brand itself, this logo denotes “passion for racing and for the roots of BMW M. This unique offer in BMW M’s history will be available for all orders from the end of January 2022″.

In addition, the brand’s most passionate drivers will be able to choose for their future BMW M some of the most legendary colours of the sports division, such as Fire Orange, Daytona Violet, Macao Blue, Dakar Yellow, Imola Red or Frozen Marina Bay Blue. According to the German manufacturer, these colours “refer to specific eras in the 50 years of BMW M’s history”.

Franciscus Van Meel, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH, has stated that “with the classic ‘BMW Motorsport’ emblem, we want to share our enjoyment of the anniversary of BMW M GmbH with the brand’s fans. We have a great year ahead of us, which will be celebrated with unique products and exciting performance. ‘M’ has long been regarded as the most powerful letter in the world and, on our brand’s anniversary, it is more powerful than ever”.

In case you didn’t know, the legendary BMW Motorsport logo features semicircles in blue, violet and red and debuted in 1973 on the BMW Motorsport racing car. The story continues until 1978, the year it debuted on the BMW M1. “The three iconic stripes slant to the right and rest on the letter M. It became an icon that transcended motorsport, highly valued and easily recognisable. The legendary BMW M1 was the only high-performance BMW M vehicle to carry the emblem in addition to the three-stripe logo. In both logos, blue represents BMW, red symbolises ‘racing’ and purple expresses the symbiosis between the two. Over time, the violet gave way to dark blue, and BMW Motorsport GmbH has been operating under the name BMW M GmbH since 1993. Nothing has changed the symbolic power of the brand and the logo. In its 50 years of existence, the company is more successful than ever as a world leader in the market for sports and high-performance cars”.

This coming year will be very interesting for BMW’s sports division. For the first time in its history it will launch the BMW M3 Touring, while we will also meet the new BMW M4 Coupé, the successor to the BMW M2, and some independent member of the sports division.
