The sporting division of BMW has grown 13% during 2021, a very positive result ahead of the celebration of its 50th anniversary.

BMW M grows 13% in the same year it celebrates its 50th anniversary. Despite the controversial grille, the new BMW M3 and BMW M4 have become two of the great winners of the market. While it is true that the new members of the BMW M family have been heavily criticised, their arrival has been very successful for the sporting division. In 2021, 163,542 units were registered, which represents 13% more than in the previous period.

For the time being, we do not have a breakdown of sales, but BMW M has confirmed that this growth has been distributed evenly across its models. This is a great sign ahead of the celebration of its 50th anniversary. Furthermore, it has pointed out that the BMW M3 and the BMW M4 got off to an extremely good start and, as the Bavarian brand asserts, partly credits their success to the fact that they can be specified with different power outputs, transmissions and drive systems.

Timo Resch, Vice President of Customer Service, Brand and Sales at BMW M, has reported that “the response to the new generation of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 has been simply overwhelming. We can therefore expect demand for these iconic sports cars to continue on an upward curve in 2022”. Another major contributor to the division has been the BMW X5M Competition, which enjoyed an equally successful market launch in 2021.

As a wildcard, the BMW M440i Coupé has proven to win over many hearts. Although it is not a full M car, it contributes to the increase in sales thanks to the involvement of the sporting division. Sales also include the BMW X3 M M50i and the BMW X7 M50i.

This same year, BMW M celebrates its 50th anniversary and has stated that it is ready to continue its product offensive with models such as the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé, the BMW M3 Touring and the long-awaited BMW M4 CSL. In addition, the BMW iX M60 will also reach the market, following in the footsteps of the BMW i4 M50.
