BMW M5 Competition, the most radical version of the German saloon arrives, now with 625 CV of power

The new BMW M5 will follow in the footsteps of the rest of the M division models and will have a Competition version, in which power increases by 25 CV and dynamics are improved

With the latest launches from the M division of BMW, I am referring to the M2, M3 and M4, the Bavarian brand has offered us with the Competition package, which makes these even more aggressive thanks to improvements in the engine and dynamics, as well as new aesthetic details that set them apart, while maintaining at all times a level of comfort and convenience that keeps them suitable for everyday use.

Of all of them, we were still missing the new BMW M5, and I say we were missing it because the M5 will receive its respective Competition version, adopting changes to the same extent as its siblings. Starting with the exterior, BMW has wanted to give the M5 Competition a distinctive character that emphasises its sportiness, fitting as standard the glossy Shadow Line created by BMW Individual in combination with a more discreet gloss black for the kidney grille surround, the side gills, the rear bumper trim, the rear spoiler and the mirror housings. Finally, there are 20-inch wheels with a Y-spoke design and a two-tone finish.

If we open its doors to enter the interior, we will see that, regardless of the upholstery selected, the seatbelts feature discreet stitching in the colours characteristic of M (two shades of blue and red), while the floor mats have a specific pattern for the model along with the M5 logo. As an original touch, when we switch on the ignition, the M Competition graphic will welcome us just before the engine starts.

It is precisely in the latter, in its engine, where we also find news, since its 4,400 cc V8 TwinPower Turbo now produces 625 CV of power, 25 CV more than the base M5, while torque is set at 750 Nm, available across a rev range that has been extended by 200 rpm, specifically between 1,800 and 5,800 rpm. Paired with this engine are the 8-speed M Steptronic automatic gearbox and the M xDrive system, which made its debut precisely with this model, as well as a specific M Sport exhaust system.

With this technology and power, the BMW M5 Competition accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, reaching 200 km/h from 0 in only 10.8 seconds, making it 3 tenths faster than the standard M5. With all this power on offer, the M5 Competition has been fitted with a specific engine mount, which translates into a dynamic improvement that allows curves to be attacked and linked in a much more precise and direct way.

But these will not be the only improvements affecting the dynamics of the M5 Competition, since the chassis is specific and has been tuned to the new figures the engine delivers, with adjustments that also affect the suspension, with dampers 10% stiffer and the elimination of the rubber bushings, as well as the installation of shorter auxiliary dampers that help reduce loads on the wheels.

For the price and availability of the BMW M5 Competition in our country we will have to wait a little longer, since BMW has, for the time being, not revealed these last two details.
