Only a few days ago we learned about the new generation of the Alpina B7, the Series 7 variant prepared by the tuner Alpina, and today it is BMW itself that surprises us.

And it surprises us with the unexpected launch of the most powerful version of the new generation of the Series 7. It is called M760iL xDrive, and make no mistake, it is anything but slow.

BMW breaks away from current trends with the introduction of the most powerful and performance-oriented variant in the history of the Series 7. The German brand has a long tradition with the V12 engine, since the launch of the second generation of the Series 7 (E32) back in 1991, BMW has used 12-cylinder V engines without interruption.

The use of V12 engines is mainly a matter of image. V12s have always represented the highest expression of luxury and technology, positioning themselves as the flagship variant of the range. For this generation, BMW has chosen to lean more towards performance and sportiness rather than being anchored in simple luxury, something it already shows with the commercial name of this version, which carries an “M” in its name.

The M760iL stands apart from any other version of the Series 7 thanks to a series of aesthetic add-ons specific to this variant. The M760iL features a complete pack that includes everything from bumpers to wheels, along with a sport exhaust system with quad tailpipes and special body colours.

Inside, there are also numerous “clues” that remind us this is not an ordinary Series 7. The M760iL features a sport steering wheel and pedals, door sills bearing the “M760iL” badge, and a centre console finished in piano black with the V12 inscription clearly visible.

This version becomes the most performance-oriented in the entire history of the Series 7

Mechanically, the M760iL xDrive is, quite literally, a marvel. Its 6.6 V12 TwinPower Turbo engine delivers no less than 600 hp and 800 Nm, staggering figures. As a curiosity, this engine produces twice the power of the first V12 Series 7, that 750iL with 300 hp. This brute of an engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, which transfers power to the ground through the permanent all-wheel-drive xDrive system.

The performance of this M760iL makes it the fastest Series 7 in history, with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed limited to 250 km/h. This version can also be specified with the M Driver’s Package which, among other things, recalibrates the speed limiter to reach 305 km/h.
