BMW opens its doors and begins production of the new 8 Series

BMW has kicked off production of the new 8 Series, which will be built at the Dingolfing plant alongside the iconic 7 Series.

The new era of sports coupés is about to reach our market, as the various brands demonstrate with their latest creations. BMW and its new 8 Series arrive to revolutionise this segment and offer an exclusive yet sporty option. Today the German firm has decided to kick off production of its new GT, with which it intends to achieve numerous successes and complicate the battle already underway among the main rivals of the BMW 8 Series.

BMW once again turned to the “8” nomenclature to bring to life a luxury coupé where exclusivity and comfort combine perfectly with sportiness. This new 8 Series directly carries forward the legacy left by its iconic first generation, managing to keep the essence intact while adapting it to current technology and mechanics. The German firm aims to revolutionise the segment in which the new 8 Series is positioned, a revolution that starts now.

The new 8 Series arrives to showcase all the novelties that BMW offers not only in its latest models, but also in those about to arrive, such as the upcoming new generation of the 3 Series. This second generation of the German sports car stands as a major innovation for the brand, where its new design together with the latest technology combine to rise to the next level and set it apart from the competition.

Aesthetically we find a sleek, modern sports car, yet one that keeps the spirit of BMW fully intact. The front grille continues to be characterised by its two kidney shapes, which govern each and every model of the German firm. At the same time, we find slimmer, elongated front light units, giving the new 8 Series a more aggressive and sporty look. This same design language is applied at the rear, where the rear lights follow that same design pattern.

For the time being BMW offers only two options to power the 8 Series, both of which boast numerous strengths. On one hand we find the M850i, the most radical and sporty variant of the German sports car. It is positioned as the future M8, since its interior houses a powerful supercharged 4.4-litre V8 capable of producing 530 CV of power and 730 Nm of torque, making the new 8 Series a pure, hardcore sports car.

However, the German firm has also considered those customers who want to enjoy everything good about the 8 Series but with a more restrained powertrain. To satisfy this profile, BMW has turned to the 840d, the only diesel variant currently offered for the new 8 Series. It is a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder capable of delivering 320 CV of power and 680 Nm of torque.

It will be at the Dingolfing plant where BMW builds the new 8 Series, sharing the production line with another of the brand’s flagship models par excellence, the iconic 7 Series. In this way, the most exclusive models from BMW will be manufactured in unison, which also demonstrates the level of exclusivity both models offer and which we will soon be able to see at our nearest dealership.
