BMW updates the voice assistant of the new iX3 with Alexa+
With the integration of Alexa+, BMW redefines the time we spend inside the car, turning the cabin into a connected space that encourages conversation and offers multiple entertainment options.
During the Consumer Electronics Show being held these days in Las Vegas, popularly known as CES 2026, the Bavarian manufacturer has announced an important innovation affecting its first model of the Neue Klasse. The new BMW iX3 will incorporate Amazon Alexa+ as its new personal assistant, enabling a much more fluid and conversational interaction between the driver and the vehicle.
The personal assistant debuted in BMW vehicles in 2018, activated by the command “Hey BMW“, and has evolved since then, including the integration of a customized version of Alexa in 2022. With the integration of Alexa+ now, this assistant steps up a level thanks to the use of a large language model (LLM), enabling a much more natural interaction. Unlike the traditional system based on predefined commands, Alexa+ understands conversational language, generates fluid responses and maintains context across extended dialogues.

For example, if the user asks what the most famous painting in the world is and where it can be found, the assistant will answer that it is the Mona Lisa, in the Louvre in Paris, but it can also link directly to navigation to guide the driver there. It even handles complex requests, such as suggesting charging stops on an electric route and adjusting the itinerary naturally.
The BMW iX3 makes a difference
BMW is the first manufacturer to integrate Alexa+, with the aim of elevating the on-board experience, a result of the existing collaboration between the Bavarian manufacturer and Amazon. This alliance sets new standards in the naturalness of human-vehicle communication, transforming the car into an intelligent companion.

Alexa+ will debut in the new iX3 with BMW Operating System X, initially in Germany and the United States from the second half of 2026, with availability later expanding to other markets and to other models of the brand running OS 9 or X. Beyond this new personal assistant, the iX3 also stands out for offering multiple entertainment options, such as the Disney+ video streaming app, YouTube Music, or Zoom for video calls, which automatically switch to audio-only when the vehicle starts moving.
