The BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M look sleek and menacing for the new Black Fire Edition special edition, in which black floods both the interior and exterior

If you ask people at BMW what the color black means to them, they will tell you it stands for power, that it is also exciting and evokes exclusivity. But if we also coat every flank and nook of the BMW X5 M and X6 M in this color, two genuine beasts in dark tones appear before us, the kind you would not want to have fixed in your rear-view mirror.

It is on this premise that the new BMW X5 M Black Fire Edition and BMW X6 M Black Fire Edition have been born, two real beauties that, at first glance alone, you would want to keep safe in your garage. Black floods them on every side, both inside and out, giving them a sinister, rakish touch that suits them perfectly. Mechanically there are no upgrades, though they hardly need any.

On the outside, the M aerodynamic and styling kit has been completely covered in Sapphire Black Metallic paint, which also extends to the double bars of the iconic kidney grilles and is presented as a unique feature of this version. The carbon-fibre mirror caps are also exclusive to this version, and the whole ensemble is finished off with 21-inch M alloy wheels, also painted black as they could not be otherwise.

Moving inside, the design line follows the same pattern as the exterior, though with certain contrasts so that it does not feel monotonous. Welcoming you are electrically adjustable multifunction seats with integrated headrests, upholstered in fine-grain Merino leather in black, creating an attractive contrast with the stitching and a central line in Mugello Red.

Another contrast comes from the anthracite roof lining, while all the interior trim inserts have been lacquered in a glossy black. On one of these, specifically the one on the passenger side of the dashboard, you will find the Black Fire logo along with the model designation, a reminder of which special edition you are in. It is worth noting that the M multifunction steering wheel upholstered in leather with aluminium shift paddles comes as standard, but at no extra cost you can also fit the M Performance steering wheel in light blue Alcántara.

The engine, as I mentioned at the beginning, remains the same, so we still have the same 4.4-litre V8 engine that delivers 575 CV and maximum torque of 750 Nm on both models, paired with the 8-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox. With this engine, both models reach 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds.

As for the price of the BMW X5 M and X6 M Black Fire Edition, we still know nothing, nor whether it will be available at Spanish dealerships, so we will remain alert for any announcement. We should not have to wait long to find out, because what has been announced is that it will be available from next August.
