Borgward, the revived German brand that will arrive in Europe in 2018

After an initial launch in China, the Borgward BX7 will reach the European market during 2018, with the possibility that the BX5 will follow later

Among the new brands there is often one that was already known for decades but for one reason or another had disappeared from the market. Borgward is one of them, and after several years of inactivity, it surprised everyone with the presentation of an SUV that aims to take its place in the international market. The Borgward BX7 was presented in 2015 and over the last two years it has been refined and prepared to be launched and compete with other similar vehicles.

Although the brand’s main objective is the local market, starting from Germany and then moving on to the rest of European countries, it wanted to test other markets first. China was the first place where it was able to test buyers’ response to this model. With all the information gathered from this experience in the Asian country, it has been able to improve the model and the strategy for its launch in Europe.

The Borgward BX7 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 225 CV and is paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox. It is not the only engine available, as buyers who opt for it will also have a hybrid version available, which increases the output to 401 CV by using both engines together.

When this model is launched in the European market, another SUV will already be developed to complement the range. In this case it will be the BX5, a smaller model that, unlike the BX7, could also reach the British market, as there is speculation that this model may have a right-hand-drive version. That will be from 2019 onwards, so we do not yet have images of this future model. We can, however, enjoy a gallery of images of the BX7, which will soon be on the roads of our country.
