BorgWarner presents a Saab 9-3 eAWD

Don’t get your hopes up, because BorgWarner hasn’t bought Saab and will carry on manufacturing transmissions… What BorgWarner is working on is an experimental Saab hybrid electric vehicle (a 9-3) featuring the eAWD transmission system.

eAWD is an electric gearbox for hybrid or electric vehicles, of which some early developments have been seen recently, and which also has torque vectoring capability, a kind of selective traction control for each wheel or each axle. BorgWarner claims this system helps achieve even more economical consumption, by 20%. eAWD is fully electronic and automatic, operating without any intervention from the driver.

The curious thing is that they use a Saab 9-3 as an example, given that Saab presented a similar system a few months ago for its new Phoenix platform. Unfortunately Saab is in the situation we all know about, and it has never managed to go any further with the new Phoenix and its new technology.
