The manufacturer will build a very limited run with the configuration of the car that set the record, which it will sell as Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+

As expected, the arrival in 2018 of Stephan Winkelmann at the helm of Bugatti meant replicating the tactic that worked so well at the other brand of the Group Volkswagen he led, driving spectacular sales growth.

Among other successes, the German executive, who spent his childhood in Italy, where he began his career in the automotive industry, saw in limited editions a great opportunity Lamborghini to put exemplary vehicles destined to be produced in ultra-limited numbers on magazine covers, and to sell them to customers eager to show off cars whose costs are sometimes considered surreal.

Be that as it may, the colleagues at the British outlet Top Gear have announced that Bugatti is already working on a new limited edition that will replicate the Bugatti that managed to reach 300 mph for the brand, which we reported on last week.

The truth is that the excuse could not be more opportune: an exclusive production run of the first production car to exceed more than 304 miles per hour, equivalent to more than 490 km/h, which set the record endorsed by the German body TÜV.

Although Bugatti did not provide any specific data on the unit used to break this record, apart from the use of tyres made by the also French manufacturer Michelin, the images of the car showed a modified example whose production version will be known as Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+.

Only 30 units of a model that exceeds 300 mph

Not only because of the extensive use of what appears to be carbon fibre on its bodywork, from the distinctive concavity behind the door that hides the rear pillar, the car looks like a kind of “Long Tail” version whose rear ends in a configuration that differs from that of the standard Bugatti Chiron.

In particular, the redesigned rear underbody diffuser includes much more imposing and effective spoilers, judging by the result obtained, and a configuration.

The mechanical package will be the same as that used in the production of the series vehicle: an 8-litre W16 engine (7,993 cc), with four turbos and an output of 1,479 CV, but with a modified gearbox to withstand and exceed 300 miles per hour instead of the 261 homologated for any of the previous versions already built, such as the also special, limited and commemorative Bugatti Chiron Sport ‘110 Ans Bugatti’.

Inside, in addition to being adapted for two passengers, since the car handed to the experienced and award-winning test driver Andy Wallace, the brand’s test driver, it was fitted with a kind of dedicated equipment to record telemetry and geolocation data, as well as a safety cage.

These passenger protection bars may be installed by the fortunate and wealthy owners of the only 30 units that will be manufactured of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+. A car that is also expected to carry a record-breaking price.

The price of this special edition as Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ could be around 4.7 million euros.
