BYD is preparing a GT version of its Seal sedan
The BYD Seal 06 GT arrives as the evolution of the Ocean M Concept into the electric hatchback market, with an estimated date of August 30

The Chinese manufacturer BYD has unveiled its new electric hatchback, the Seal 06 GT, which is the production version of the Ocean M concept presented at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2024. Although the exterior design retains some of the lines of the original concept, notable adjustments have been made to make the model more understated and suitable for mass production.
The original design, which had a more sporty approach, has been softened. The bumpers, while still sporty, are less aggressive, and the concept’s prominent rear spoiler has been removed. In addition, the LED light graphics on the front and rear headlights, as well as the mirrors, have been simplified, suggesting a more practical approach for the final version of the vehicle.

The interior of the Seal 06 GT adopts many of the features of the BYD Seal sedan, including the digital cockpit and steering wheel, but with an exclusive dashboard design that incorporates a distinct ventilation system. These changes aim to offer a fresh and modern atmosphere in the cabin of the new model.
This electric hatchback sits between the smaller Dolphin and the Seal sedan, with dimensions that make it larger than rivals such as the VW ID.3 and the MG4, but still below the crossovers Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. With a length of 4,630 mm and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, the Seal 06 GT offers a robust presence in the electric hatchback segment.

Based on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo platform of BYD, the Seal 06 GT is designed to support single-motor rear-wheel-drive configurations or dual-motor all-wheel-drive setups. Although BYD has not officially confirmed the specifications, information from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology suggests the model could offer a power output of 215 CV in its single-motor version and up to 416 CV in the dual-motor variant.
The official launch of the BYD Seal 06 GT is scheduled for August 30, with an estimated price between ¥150,000 and ¥200,000, which is roughly equivalent to 21,000 to 28,000 US dollars. BYD will likely plan to export this model to other markets outside China, including Europe and Australia, thereby expanding its presence in the global electric vehicle market.
