This partnership between BYD and Sinopec represents a significant step forward in expanding the company’s fast-charging infrastructure in China.

BYD has signed a strategic alliance with Sinopec in China with the aim of accelerating the rollout of its ultra-fast charging network Flash Charging. This collaboration leverages Sinopec’s extensive presence, which operates more than 30,000 service stations across the country.

The framework agreement establishes a strategic collaboration to develop an “intelligent energy ecosystem”. The alliance has both industrial and financial backing and is not limited to charging stations, but will also cover broader aspects of the supply chain. This initiative is based on prior cooperation between the two companies.

Sinopec has become a highly sought-after partner in the electric mobility sector. A clear example is its long-standing collaboration with CATL, with which it plans to install up to 10,000 battery swap stations at its facilities in the long term.

According to some reports published in Chinese media, BYD will use this extensive network of petrol stations to install and operate a large number of its most modern and powerful charging points. The company currently manages around 6,100 Flash Charging stations and has set the ambitious goal of reaching 20,000 before the end of this year.

The rollout focuses on the second generation of Flash Charging chargers, which we have already discussed here at HighMotor on other occasions. These T-shaped devices incorporate two charging cables that can be connected simultaneously to the same vehicle. Thanks to an innovative rail system, the cables, which hang from above, can be manoeuvred with ease despite their weight, a consequence of the cooling system they integrate.

As you probably already know, the main appeal of this technology is its power, with a maximum of 1,500 kilowatts supported. Ultra-fast charging at Flash Charging stations is available for all BYD vehicles equipped with second-generation Blade batteries.
