Cabify will deploy 100 Polestar electric cars in Madrid and Barcelona

This measure is in line with the company’s philosophy of promoting the transition to electric mobility

Cabify and Polestar have just announced a major agreement that will have an impact on the passenger transport sector in the Spanish cities of Madrid and Barcelona, helping to decarbonise the sector of hire vehicles with driver (VTC) in both cities. This collaboration will involve the introduction of a fleet of 100 electric vehicles in total, split equally between Spain’s two largest cities. All of these units will be the same model from the Swedish manufacturer: the Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor Plus.

The Polestar 2, recently updated, offers a range of up to 655 kilometres in urban use. On the streets of Barcelona and Madrid, the vehicles will be operated by Vecttor, a subsidiary of the Cabify group. The project managers also estimate that this acquisition will save more than half a million litres of fuel and avoid the emission of 800 tonnes of CO2. These figures have been obtained by comparing them with similar models with combustion engines.

The agreement reached between the two companies will not only affect Cabify’s passenger transport fleet in Spain’s two most important cities. In addition, it will also allow companies and self-employed drivers who work with Cabify in Madrid or Barcelona to purchase Polestar vehicles at a price below the market price.

In this regard, Javier Dorado, Director of Public Affairs of Cabify in Spain, has stated that with the acquisition of these new 100 percent electric vehicles, Cabify’s commitment to Madrid and Barcelona is reaffirmed, promoting more efficient urban mobility that is more respectful of the environment in both cities.

He has also emphasised that this type of agreement is very important for the company he represents, as it helps to give visibility to its products and contributes to the company’s main objective, which is to promote and accelerate the transition to 100 percent electric mobility.

Cabify continues to grow and expand into new markets

The most recent significant news we received about Cabify came at the end of last year, when the company announced it had raised around 100 million euros, which will be allocated to expanding the company into new cities in Latin America and Spain.

Finally, we should point out that although Madrid was not a new market for the company, this agreement announced now is in line with the company’s previously stated goal of deploying 1,400 electric vehicles in Spain over the coming years.

Cabify currently claims to have more than 50 million registered users, one and a half million associated drivers and more than a thousand employees worldwide.
