Volkswagen, the German brand loved by many, has taken yet another incredible step towards optimal travel comfort, and this time it has introduced its first mid-to-upper-segment battery electric vehicle, the ID.7. What truly sets this vehicle apart is its new generation of seats, the Premium ErgoActive2.

Through a pioneering collaboration with the German Campaign for a Healthier Back (AGR), Volkswagen has designed seats that not only offer a relaxing massage but also stimulate key muscle areas, such as the spine and pelvis, through the use of two air cushions in the seat that work alternately in combination with the massage function. This process relieves muscle tension and prevents occupants from remaining in the same position for long periods, improving comfort and well-being on long journeys.

The ID.7 has been designed to offer an unparalleled level of comfort to its occupants, and the Premium ErgoActive2 seats are the crown jewel in this pursuit of ergonomic perfection. To achieve this, Volkswagen partnered with back health experts, physiotherapists and sports scientists from AGR. The result is a front seat that not only comfortably embraces the driver and passenger, but also offers a high-tech massage experience.

But the Premium ErgoActive2 seats do not stop at stimulating the pelvis and spine. They also offer a pressure-point massage thanks to ten air cushions in the backrests. These cushions combine in sequences of specific programmes lasting from 10 to 30 minutes, adapting to the user’s needs. In addition, the seats are fully adjustable, with 12 power positions and two manual seat-depth positions with thigh support. The memory function allows occupants to save their preferred settings for quick and easy access.

Massage and climate control included

Personalised climate control is another standout feature of these seats. Dynamic climate control regulates the seat cushion and backrest independently, allowing each zone to be heated and ventilated individually. For the first time, each user’s ideal seat temperature can be adjusted automatically. Sensors measure temperature and humidity levels at the contact area between the seat and the occupant, and based on this data, an optimal environment is created for each passenger. In addition to automatic configuration, users can choose from three smart climates: warm, dry or cool. This individualised approach not only increases comfort but also saves energy compared with climate-controlling the entire vehicle interior.

Controlling these seats is intuitive and simple. Adjustments can be made directly from the buttons on the seat or via the infotainment system screen. In the second row of seats in the ID.7, there are even three settings for heating the seat cushions and backrests, all controlled from the central console.

Included in the optional Plus package

Although these seats are optional, they are part of the Plus interior package, which includes other luxury features for an additional €4,450. This package adds a high-end 700-watt Harman Kardon sound system with 14 speakers and an ambient lighting system with 30 different colours, making the ID.7 a truly exceptional vehicle.
