Citroën C6: its production run is about to end

The Citroën C6 will be discontinued at the end of the year, completing the programme it had been assigned until the end of 2012. Its replacement is already in sight: none other than the spectacular DS9, which still keeps the lines of a concept car.

The final days of December will mark the end of the Citroën C6, one of the last great saloons from the PSA Group, which had received its death sentence in 2009, when it was decided that 2012 would be its last year of production, a fate shared with its sibling, the Peugeot 607.

And the truth is that the C6’s final days have been nothing to write home about, as it has not gone beyond 530 units sold in the first eleven months of this year and fewer than 1,000 units sold throughout last year, which cannot be blamed entirely on the model but rather on weak sales across the board.

Even so, the C6 was not a resounding corporate failure; although sales figures are not enough to pop the champagne, Citroën has built 20,000 units of the model, exactly the same number it had planned to produce.

The departure of the C6 will not leave the brand with the chevrons without a segment E model, as on the horizon the preparation of the DS9 can be glimpsed, shown from its earliest days at the Beijing show and which we recently saw in Paris. According to what is known so far, the DS9 is expected to arrive sometime next year. It appears it will have smaller dimensions than the concept, but no one will be able to take away its place as a flagship saloon.
