The PSA and Toyota Motor Europe (TME) groups have today announced the launch of a new generation of commercial vehicles developed and built jointly.

A total of three different models, Citroën Spacetourer, Peugeot Traveller and Toyota Proace, which will bring added competitiveness to their respective ranges.

PSA and TME have been working together for some time on the development and manufacture of different models, whether passenger cars or commercial vehicles. Within the first category we find models such as the Toyota Aygo/Peugeot 108/Citroën C1, which are now in their second generation and have achieved good sales figures.

In addition to passenger cars, the Citroën Jumpy, Peugeot Expert and Toyota Proace were also sold until now. These were launched a few years ago and have accounted for a significant volume of sales for the three brands. They are now being renewed with the launch of a new generation which, moreover, involves a change of nomenclature for the French models.

Few details are yet known about this new generation of commercial vehicles, which will be launched in two variants: the Combi, for private use, and the Shuttle, with a professional focus. They will be powered by engines also developed jointly, although there will be slight modifications within each brand.

The design will be basically the same for the three vehicles, although each will have its own style within the logical limits imposed by a joint development. Thus, the French models will be somewhat bolder, while the Japanese version will be more restrained.

Thanks to this joint development, costs have been significantly reduced from the outset, making it possible to create a quality product without the final price for the consumer soaring. This kind of industrial strategy is becoming increasingly widespread in the automotive world, both in professional-type vehicles and in passenger car models.
