Daniel Abt breaks all the rules by building his own 340 CV Audi RS1

Daniel Abt has brought us closer to the Audi RS1 with his own creation, which includes aesthetic and mechanical upgrades to tame the 340 CV it delivers.

Who better than a member of ABT to build an Audi RS1? That’s right, Daniel Abt himself has decided to break all the rules by reshaping the A1 40 TFSI to his taste. The German driver couldn’t wait for the four-ring brand to present the most souped-up versions of its quintessential compact, so, without a second thought, Daniel has modified every last detail of the A1. The end result? A car designed for the city but with a series of attributes and aesthetic features that turn it into a genuine competition car.

Suspension, engine, gearbox, interior, exterior… absolutely everything has been modified to make the small but tough A1 climb several rungs on the automotive ladder. With this premise, Daniel has created his own personal toy, and only this one unit will exist in the world, making it a far more exclusive car.

Before embarking on the adventure of changing the entire look of the German compact, Abt and his team used modelling putty to get an idea of what the final result would look like. Once all the steps had been analysed, the designers brought to life a much more radical A1 thanks to a specific body kit, wider wheel arches, a new diffuser, dual central exhaust outlets, splitter, spoiler and plenty, and I mean plenty, of carbon fibre.

The interior could not be left behind in this brutal transformation, which is why ABT has taken care of even the smallest detail. Once the rear seats were removed, Daniel decided to install a roll cage, Perspex windows, bucket seats, a steering wheel with the same button layout as the R8 itself, and countless pieces trimmed in Alcantara and carbon fibre.

But it is in the mechanical section where we truly find the real changes that make this Audi A1 so much more special. As standard, the German compact in its 40 TFSI variant has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine capable of producing 200 CV, but Abt decided to extract the heart of a competition Audi TT and install it in the A1 so that it delivers a total of 340 CV.

This is how a one-of-a-kind Audi A1 was born, ready to mark part of the path of that supposed RS1 we are all eagerly waiting for. Thanks to Daniel Abt and his team, we have witnessed the potential of the four-ring compact, a car that is predisposed and ready to receive the most sporting designations of the house that shelters it.
