Deepal opens reservations in China for the L06 electric saloon

Deepal, Changan’s premium brand, is set to expand its range in China with the new L06, a mid-size electric saloon that can already be reserved in this Asian country. This model joins a broad lineup of electric models which, in this market, includes the compact SUVs S05 and S07, the premium SUV S09, the off-roader G318 and the SL03 saloon. In Europe, for now, Deepal only sells the S05 and S07, but it is not out of the question that another model currently on sale in China may arrive soon.

With dimensions of 4.83 metres long, 1.91 wide and 1.48 high, and a wheelbase of 2.90 metres, the L06 enters the Chinese market intending to take on rivals of the calibre of the Xiaomi S07 or the Tesla Model 3, among others.

Initially, the Deepal L06 will only be offered in a rear-wheel-drive version, thanks to an electric motor producing 200 kW and 290 Nm of torque, which allows it to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 5.9 seconds. What we don’t yet know is its top speed, as this figure has not been disclosed by the manufacturer.

Enough range to go wherever you want

Additionally, this new saloon from the Chinese manufacturer is fitted with an LFP battery pack with cells supplied by CATL, in two capacities, 56.1 or 68.8 kWh. In this way, following the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle, the Deepal L06 can cover between 560 and 670 km, respectively. On the other hand, when charging with direct current, the vehicle is able to increase its state of charge from 30 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes.

The Chinese manufacturer plans to bring a second variant with a range extender to market in the near future, which will integrate a 1.5-litre, 72 kW combustion engine acting as a generator. The electric motor of this model will deliver 175 kW and the battery pack will be reduced to just 28.4 kWh. Enough to cover around 180 km in purely electric mode without burning a single drop of petrol.

The Deepal L06 also stands out for its innovative magnetorheological suspension. A technology uncommon in a vehicle of this segment and more typical of high-performance cars, which uses a magnetic fluid whose viscosity changes in milliseconds depending on the applied magnetic field, thereby adjusting the stiffness of the dampers almost instantly according to needs.

It is certainly not just any car

Finally, regarding the vehicle’s equipment, the impressive 50-inch head-up display with augmented reality it features stands out, together with an infotainment system powered by an advanced SoC with a 3-nanometre chip, which represents an absolute first in a mass-production vehicle, according to the manufacturer.

The Deepal L06 starts at 139,900 yuan in the Chinese market, which amounts to roughly 17 thousand euros. For now, it is unknown whether this model will also reach the European market in the near future. We will, however, be watching for any announcement from the manufacturer on the matter.
