Despite everything, here is the new Volkswagen Golf Variant from 2021
The rise of all kinds of SUV-style bodies, and with it the decline of MPVs and the constant balancing act of traditional saloons on a tightrope, put the sword of Damocles over the heads of the enlarged-capacity bodies typical of the variants known in our country as estates or ‘rancheras’. In fact, only these have been able to withstand the avalanche produced by SUVs which, in a manner similar to bacterial feeding, have engulfed models wagon, shooting brake, combi, tourer or whatever name the manufacturer chooses, as seemed to be the case with the Volkswagen Golf Variant from 2021.
Although in September 2018 reports and obituaries declared the end of the seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf with 3 doors, as well as the body based on a high-capacity boot, the proof that the eighth generation will indeed have a version in Volkswagen Golf Variant configuration comes to us from our Italian colleagues at Motori On Line.
The new Volkswagen Golf Variant, in testing
Thus, from the Italian outlet they have photographed a test unit of what will be the 2021 Volkswagen Golf Variant, a vehicle stripped of any camouflage livery typical of test cars, and which openly displays, among other things, the new Volkswagen logo but not the side badges fitted to the cars of the new generation.
With all the discretion lent by the white colour of its bodywork and wheels of moderate appeal, this car can go unnoticed to inexperienced eyes, since it looks like a production car except for the fact that its tailgate lacks the model name and body variant, given the absence of a rear wiper, and it plays at deception since the lights have been subtly modified with a vinyl of the same colour as the bodywork, making them similar to those of the previous generation.

Be that as it may, the almost final appearance of this vehicle suggests it is one of the last units evaluated before entering production, which, according to our Italian colleagues, will happen at the end of this same year.
